Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are designed for effectively removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths, suitable for a range of belt sanding tools and applications across both wood and metal. 3M™ offers a wide selection of belts compatible with most industrial belt sanders. Wide belt sanders are ideal for sanding and finishing large wood panels, while medium-width belts are used on edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Narrow belts are tailored for use with file tools in metalworking, allowing access to small areas or inside corners. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive mineral; silicon carbide is sharp and suitable for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, whereas aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral known for its high cut-rate and longevity. While silicon carbide tends to break down faster than aluminum oxide, it yields a finer finish. These belt sanders excel in rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across various surfaces, and unlike sanding wheels and discs that may clog, the design of belt sanders allows for continuous sanding as small grooves in the abrasive belt open around the drive wheel. Applications for these belts include metalworking, paint preparation, and coating and corrosion removal.
