The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1/2" x 24" and features silicon carbide SFN grit. This durable belt is designed for detailed work including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. It is effective at removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. The belts come in multiple widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for use on wood and metal, with wide belts suitable for sanding large wood panels on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts for edge or portable belt sanders on wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking in small areas or inside corners. The abrasive mineral choice includes silicon carbide, a synthetic sharp mineral used for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, and aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral that provides a high cut rate and long life; silicon carbide produces a finer finish but breaks down faster than aluminum oxide. Belt sanders are suitable for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing various surfaces and maintain efficiency by preventing clogging through small grooves in the abrasive belt that open around the drive wheel arc.
