The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 4 inches by 168 inches with a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit numerous industrial belt sanding tools, suitable for both wood and metal applications. Wide belts are designed for large wood panel sanding and finishing with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are used with file tools for metalworking in small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; aluminum oxide, used in this belt, is hard and blocky, delivering a high cut rate and long life compared to silicon carbide, which, while sharper and finer finishing, breaks down faster. Belt sanders using these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across various surfaces, maintaining efficiency by avoiding clogging due to small grooves in the abrasive belt that open around drive wheels. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, grain setting, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straightline brushed finish, primarily used in metalworking industries.
