The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 3" x 79" and features medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive designed for removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a broad range of industrial belt sanders, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders used on wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking file tools accessing small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is very sharp and suited for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide offers a high cut rate and long life with a harder, blocky mineral structure, producing a finer finish despite silicon carbide breaking down faster. Belt sanders equipped with these belts are effective for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces without clogging, as the abrasive belts’ small grooves open around the drive wheel arc. Typical applications include blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, grain setting, stainless steel finishing, and creating a straightline brushed finish, primarily serving the metalworking industry.
