The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 3 inches by 72 inches and features VFN grit aluminum oxide abrasive. These belts are designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives, suitable for both wood and metal applications. Various widths and lengths are offered to fit different belt sanding tools, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable belt sanders useful in sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking file tools to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are available with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals: silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral that is very sharp and suitable for low-pressure tasks such as paint preparation and finishing, offering a finer finish but faster breakdown, whereas aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral providing a high cut-rate and extended life. Belt sanders employing these belts facilitate rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on diverse surfaces, maintaining efficiency over time by resisting clogging due to the belt’s grooved abrasive design. Typical applications include blending, corner blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, grain setting, stainless steel finishing, and straightline brushed finishes, mainly within metalworking industries.
