The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1" x 42" and features SFN grit silicon carbide abrasive. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in various widths and lengths, these abrasive belts are compatible with different belt sanding tools for applications on both wood and metal. Wide belts are designed for wide belt sanders used in sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for blending wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts are suitable for file tools in metalworking to reach small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured using either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral best suited for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing, offering a finer finish though it wears down faster, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral providing a high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders equipped with these belts enable rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across various surfaces, maintaining efficiency by preventing clogging due to the small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as they pass over the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straight line brushed finish, predominantly used in the metalworking industry.
