The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1 inch by 42 inches and features CRS grit aluminum oxide abrasives designed for removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths for use on a range of belt sanding tools applicable to both wood and metal surfaces. Scotch-Brite™ SC belts are compatible with industrial belt sanders, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders suited to wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts used with file tools in metalworking to access small or interior areas. The belts may have either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide minerals; silicon carbide is a synthetic, sharp mineral ideal for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, offering a finer finish but shorter lifespan, while aluminum oxide is a hard and blocky mineral that delivers high cut-rate and durability. Belt sanders equipped with these belts are effective for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces, resisting clogging due to the small grooves in the belts that open around drive wheels. Typical applications include blending and blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and creating straightline brushed finishes.
