The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 3/4" x 24" and features aluminum oxide with medium grit, designed for detailed work including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. This durable belt effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, these belts are suitable for applications on wood and metal; wide belts accommodate large wood panels on wide belt sanders, medium widths are ideal for edge or portable belt sanders used on wood pieces such as cabinet doors, while narrow belts are intended for metalworking with file tools to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured using either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral, is suited for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, whereas aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut rate and long life. Aluminum oxide provides greater durability compared to silicon carbide, which breaks down faster but yields a finer finish. Belt sanders outfitted with these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across various surfaces, maintaining efficiency by avoiding clogging due to small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as the belt moves over the drive wheel arc.
