The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1/2" x 12" and features silicon carbide SFN grit, designed for detailed work such as blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine and flat finishing, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. This durable belt effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts come in a range of widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanding tools, including wide belts for large wood panels, medium-width belts for cabinet doors and similar applications, and narrow belts for metalworking tasks in small areas or inside corners. Manufactured with either silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure paint preparation and finishing, or aluminum oxide, a hard abrasive mineral providing high cut-rate and long life, the belts accommodate different finishing requirements. Silicon carbide belts produce a finer finish but wear faster than aluminum oxide belts. Belt sanders equipped with these belts maintain efficiency without clogging, as small grooves in the abrasive belt open around the drive wheel arc, allowing for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on a variety of surfaces.
