The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1/2" x 13" and features aluminum oxide with medium grit. This durable belt is engineered for detail work including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. It effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in many widths and lengths, these abrasive belts fit a range of belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. Wide belts suit sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable sanders for wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts work with file tools in metalworking for tight areas or inside corners. The belts are made with either silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing, or aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut-rate and long life. Although silicon carbide breaks down faster, it yields a finer finish. Belt sanders provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing, maintaining efficiency by preventing clogging through grooves in the belt that open as it moves around the drive wheel.
