The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 1/2" x 132" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive mineral. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives, suitable for use on both wood and metal. The belts come in various widths and lengths, compatible with different belt sanding tools; wide belts are intended for large wood panel finishing on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for cabinet doors and wood pieces, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking for small areas or inside corners. Manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide, silicon carbide is sharp and suitable for low-pressure applications like paint prep and finishing, producing finer finishes but breaking down faster, whereas aluminum oxide delivers a high cut rate and long life. These belts operate efficiently without clogging due to small grooves that open around the drive wheel’s arc, making them ideal for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straight-line brushed finish. The product is intended primarily for the metalworking industry and adheres to relevant industry standards for surface conditioning tools.
