The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 3/8" x 18" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive mineral designed for detail work including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straight-line brushed finishes on various metals. This durable belt effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools used on both wood and metal applications. Wide belts are suitable for sanding large wood panels on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking for accessing small areas or inside corners. Scotch-Brite™ SC belts are available with either silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, or aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut rate and long life; aluminum oxide provides a coarser cut with longer durability, whereas silicon carbide delivers a finer finish but breaks down faster. Belt sanders using these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces and resist clogging better than sanding wheels or discs due to the small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as they pass over the drive wheel.
