The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 3" x 24" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs from wood and metal surfaces. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanders, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders used on items such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking file tools accessing small areas or inside corners. These belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasives; aluminum oxide offers a hard, blocky mineral that provides a high cut rate and long lifespan, while silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral suitable for low-pressure applications and produces a finer finish but breaks down faster. Belt sanders equipped with these belts enable rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across various materials, preventing clogging through small grooves in the belt that open around the drive wheel arc, maintaining effectiveness where sanding wheels and discs may fail. Typical applications include blending and blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine and flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and producing straight-line brushed finishes, used predominantly in marine and metalworking industries.
