The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 3" x 21" with a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanding tools used on wood and metal. Wide belts are suited for sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable belt sanders used on wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking file tools accessing small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide offers a sharp synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide provides high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders employing these belts perform rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on multiple surfaces, with the belts designed to resist clogging due to small grooves opening on the abrasive belt as it moves over the drive wheel. Applications include blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, grain setting, stainless steel finishing, and producing a straightline brushed finish, primarily in the metalworking industry.
