Scotch-Brite™ SC Surface Conditioning Belts are designed to effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to accommodate a range of belt sanding tools for diverse applications on both wood and metal surfaces. 3M™ offers a broad selection of belts compatible with most industrial belt sanders. Wide belt sanders are ideal for sanding and finishing large wood panels, while medium-width belts are suited for edge or portable belt sanders, perfect for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Narrow belts are utilized with file tools in metalworking, allowing access to small areas or intricate internal corners. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are manufactured using either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals. Silicon carbide, being a synthetic mineral, offers sharpness and is typically used for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide is recognized for its durability and fast cutting capabilities, providing extended service life. Although silicon carbide wears out more quickly, it delivers a finer finish. Belt sanders are preferred for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces, as they resist clogging—small grooves in the abrasive belt open during operation, allowing continuous use. These belts are utilized in a variety of applications including blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, and stainless steel finishing, primarily within the metalworking industry.
