The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 8 gauge building wire is a stranded type conductor, primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. As type THHN, this conductor is suitable for dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C; as type THWN-2 or TWN75, it is suitable for both wet and dry locations under the same temperature conditions, or up to 75 °C when exposed to oil. Additionally, as type MTW, it can be used in wet locations or when exposed to oil at temperatures not exceeding 60 °C, or in dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C, with ampacity limited to that of a 75 °C conductor per NFPA 79. For appliance wiring material rated AWM or T90 nylon, conductor temperatures can reach up to 105 °C in dry locations, and the voltage rating for all applications is 600 volts. This cable can be installed without pulling lubricant. The wire meets or exceeds all applicable ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90° C, Federal Specification A-A-59544, and National Electrical Code requirements, with VW-1 ratings for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT ratings for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, and FT1 ratings up to 500 KCMIL. It is RoHS compliant, sunlight resistant, and marked and listed in all colors for sizes 2 AWG and larger. Constructed with annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand, the conductor is insulated with tough heat and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and features a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an equivalent UL recognized jack.
