The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 3 gauge building wire is a stranded copper conductor primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications, conforming to the 2008 National Electrical Code. This wire can be utilized in dry locations with a maximum temperature of 90 °C when rated as THHN, or in wet or dry locations at 90 °C or 75 °C when exposed to oil as THWN-2 or TWN75. As MTW, it is suitable for wet locations or when exposed to oil at temperatures not exceeding 60 °C, or in dry locations at 90 °C, with ampacity limited to 75 °C. The wire can withstand conductor temperatures up to 105 °C in dry locations when rated AWM and is designed for 600 volts applications without the need for pulling lubricant. This wire meets or exceeds all applicable ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, Federal Specification A-A-59544, and the requirements of the National Electrical Code. Additionally, it is VW-1 rated for sizes 14 through 1 AWG CT, UL 1685 for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, and FT1 rated for sizes through 500 KCMIL. The cable is ROHS compliant, sunlight resistant, marked and listed in all colors for sizes 2 AWG and larger. Constructed from annealed (soft) copper, this wire features unilay compressed strands insulated with a durable heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), overlaid with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon or an equivalent UL recognized jacket.
