TFFN 18 gauge building wire, stranded type, black, is suitable for applications specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code, including fixture wire, machine tool wiring, or appliance wiring material. As type TFFN, the conductor can be used at temperatures not exceeding 90°C. When utilized as type MTW, it is appropriate for wet locations or when exposed to oil or coolant at temperatures not exceeding 60°C, or in dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90°C, with ampacity limited to that for a 75°C conductor temperature per NFPA 79. The conductor can withstand temperatures up to 105°C in dry locations when rated AWM and employed as appliance wiring material. The voltage rating for all applications is 600 volts. Southwire type TFFN, MTW, or AWM meets or exceeds UL standard 66 and National Electrical Code requirements, and is RoHS compliant. The construction features annealed (soft) copper conductors insulated with a tough, heat, and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), overlaid with a nylon (polyamide) jacket. The wire is available in colors including black, white, red, blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, purple, gray, and pink, with some colors being standard and others subject to economic order quantity. Additionally, the wire is oil and gasoline resistant as defined by Underwriters Laboratories.
