3M™ cloth belt 464W is an abrasive sanding belt constructed with a heavy, YF-weight backing that incorporates closed coat construction for aggressive sanding action. The belt includes silicon carbide abrasive particles combined with cork and a flexible backing, making it suitable for metal surface sanding and achieving the required "blue" finish on stainless steel. Designed for tough sanding and finishing applications, 3M™ cloth belt 464W offers durability and fast cutting performance. Its heavy polyester cloth backing ensures smooth operation and the ability to conform to contoured parts for consistent finishing. The closed coat construction enhances aggressive sanding, while the distinctive blue-black color allows for easy identification of grit and grain. The use of silicon carbide, a hard synthetic mineral, enables a fast cut-rate and smooth finish, ideal for low-pressure applications on wood and metal. While it wears more quickly than aluminum oxide, it provides a finer finish. Additionally, the resin bonding resists thermal and chemical deterioration, allowing for precision work on both hard and soft surfaces.
