The Byrd® helical cutterhead on this planer is designed for smoother cutting and a finer finish compared to conventional knives, featuring 74 four-sided indexable carbide knife inserts that do not require adjustment after installation. It is powered by a robust 3HP TEFC motor, utilizing three V-belts to transfer maximum power to the cutterhead. The machine includes a precision ground cast iron table and two large extension wings that offer substantial support for workpieces. It has a 4" dust port that angles the collection hose away from the work area, enhancing efficiency in chip and dust collection. Additionally, stock return rollers atop the machine facilitate faster repetitive cuts, while the serrated steel infeed and smooth steel outfeed rollers allow for a maximum depth of cut of 1/8". The two-speed gearbox is equipped with an automatic chain tensioner, and the one-piece welded steel stand features built-in lockable casters for mobility around the shop.
