The 3M utility cloth roll measures 1 inch wide by 20 yards long and features aluminum oxide abrasive with a P150 grit. The desired length can be torn from the roll to suit specific applications. Most grades have a light J-weight cloth backing that provides flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours, while rolls in grades P50 or P60 use a slightly stiffer X-weight backing suitable for more coarse sanding applications. The cloth remains durable when bent or rolled without tearing or shelling, yet strips can be torn by hand without compromising the sanding surface. The aluminum oxide abrasive is known for its fast cut-rate, long life, and self-fracturing properties that expose fresh cutting edges, making it suitable for a variety of materials including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic. Typical applications include blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal, primarily within metalworking and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) industries.
