The 3M Utility Cloth Roll measures 1" wide by 50 yards long and features aluminum oxide abrasive with a P150 grit. The roll allows the desired length of strip to be torn off for specific applications. Most grades use a light J-weight cloth backing that provides the flexibility needed to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours, while rolls in grades P50 or P60 have a slightly stiffer X-weight backing suitable for more coarse sanding tasks. The cloth backing remains durable when bent or rolled without tearing or shelling, and strips can be hand-torn without compromising the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide is known for its fast cut-rate and long life due to its self-fracturing mineral composition, making it suitable for a variety of materials including ferrous alloys, non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic. Typical applications include blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal in industries such as marine, metalworking, and MRO.
