The 3M utility cloth roll measures 1-1/2" wide by 20 yards long and features aluminum oxide abrasive with P240 grit. The strip length can be torn from the roll for specific applications. Most grades use a light J-weight cloth backing that provides flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours, while grades P50 or P60 have a slightly stiffer X-weight backing for coarser sanding. The cloth remains durable when bent or rolled without tearing or shelling but can be torn by hand for smaller pieces without compromising the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide is a tough, durable abrasive known for its fast cut rate and long life due to self-fracturing properties that expose fresh cutting edges, suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys. This abrasive can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic for applications such as blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal, primarily in metalworking and MRO industries.
