The 3M utility cloth roll measures 1-1/2" wide by 20 yards long and features aluminum oxide abrasive with P180 grit. The strip length can be torn from the roll for specific applications, with most grades using a light, J-weight cloth backing that provides flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours. Rolls in grades P50 or P60 have a stiffer X-weight backing suitable for more coarse sanding applications. The cloth remains durable when bent or rolled without tearing or shelling, while strips can be torn by hand without compromising the sanding surface. The aluminum oxide abrasive is known for a fast cut-rate and long life, as it self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic. Common applications include blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal, primarily serving industries such as metalworking and MRO.
