The 3M utility cloth roll measures 1 inch wide by 50 yards long and features aluminum oxide abrasive with P50 grit. The strip length can be torn from the roll for specific applications. Most grades use a light J-weight cloth backing that provides flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours, while rolls in grades P50 or P60 have a slightly stiffer X-weight backing suitable for coarser sanding. The cloth is durable when bent or rolled, resist tearing or shelling, but strips can be torn by hand without compromising the sanding surface. The aluminum oxide abrasive offers a fast cut rate and long life due to its tough, self-fracturing mineral that exposes fresh cutting edges, making it suitable for woodworking, metalworking, and various materials including ferrous alloys. It can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic for applications such as blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal. The product serves industries including metalworking and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO).
