The 3M utility cloth roll measures 1-1/2" W x 50 yd and features aluminum oxide with a P240 grit. The roll allows the user to tear strips to the desired length for specific applications. Most grades are equipped with a light, J-weight cloth backing that provides the necessary flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours; however, rolls in grades P50 or P60 have a stiffer X-weight backing suitable for more coarse sanding applications. The durable cloth maintains its integrity even when bent or rolled, preventing tearing or shelling, while still allowing for easy tearing by hand when smaller pieces are needed, without compromising the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide is favored among industrial professionals for its fast cut-rate and longevity, featuring a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to reveal fresh cutting edges, as opposed to traditional natural abrasives that dull quickly. This mineral is effective on various materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys, and is applicable for blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal.
