The 3M utility cloth roll measures 1 inch in width and 20 yards in length, featuring aluminum oxide abrasive with P80 grit. The roll allows tearing of strips to the desired length for specific applications, with most grades backed by light J-weight cloth that offers flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, and contours. Rolls with P50 or P60 grit grades have a stiffer X-weight backing designed for coarser sanding tasks. The cloth backing remains durable, resisting tearing or shelling even when bent or rolled, though strips can be torn by hand without compromising the sanding surface. The aluminum oxide abrasive is known for its fast cut rate and long life, as it self-fractures to reveal fresh cutting edges, making it suitable for a wide range of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. It is appropriate for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic, supporting applications such as blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal.
