The Iko shell type needle roller bearing, part# BHA88ZOH, features a heavy-duty construction with a 1/2 inch bore, 3/4 inch outer diameter, and a width of .500 inches. This bearing consists of a precisely drawn outer ring made from thin special steel plate, complemented by needle rollers and optionally a retainer. Known for having the smallest sectional height and weight among needle roller bearings, it provides relatively high load ratings. The needle roller bearing with retainer is suitable for high-speed applications due to the precise guidance of the rollers, while the grease retained type, or full complement bearing, is ideal for heavy load applications at low speeds. Unlike other types, shell type needle roller bearings do not come pre-packed with lubricant except for those that are grease retained; therefore, proper lubrication is essential during use. Typically used without inner rings, these bearings recommend a shaft surface finish of 0.2 µMRA or less and a hardness of HRC 58 to 64. When these requirements cannot be achieved, Iko inner rings should be utilized. It is important to note that due to their thin cross sections, the outer ring cannot avoid deformation from heat treatment, making direct measurement inappropriate. Users should refer to standard mounting dimensions for correct shaft and housing diameters, with outer ring width tolerances of +0 to -0.25 mm.
