IKO Shell Type Needle Roller Bearing inch, closed end, 1/2 bore, 11/16 OD, and 0.500" width, part# BAM88, consists of an outer ring made from accurately drawn thin special steel plate and needle rollers, available with or without a retainer. This bearing type has the smallest sectional height and weight among all needle roller bearings, as well as relatively high load ratings. The needle roller bearing with retainer can be utilized for high-speed applications due to the precise guidance of rollers by the retainer and thrust ring. These bearings are not pre-packed with lubricant, so proper lubrication must be applied during use. Typically, Shell Type Needle Roller Bearings are used with shafts that do not have inner rings; a shaft surface finish of 0.2µm RA or less and hardness of HRC 58 to 64 are recommended. In cases where these specifications cannot be met, the use of IKO inner rings is suggested. As the outer ring cannot avoid deformation by heat treatment due to its thin cross-section, direct measurement on the outer ring is not recommended; instead, standard mounting dimensions for shaft and housing diameters should be used, with the outer ring width tolerance being +0 to -0.20 mm.
