The IKO separable roller follower is designed with a needle roller cage and a thick-walled outer ring, making it capable of withstanding heavy rolling or shock loads. This design allows for easy separation of components, facilitating handling. The roller followers are available with either crowned or cylindrical outer rings; the crowned variant alleviates edge loads caused by mounting errors, while the cylindrical variant is ideal for applications involving large loads or low track surface hardness due to its expansive contact area with the mating track surface. It is important to note that adequate lubrication is essential, as pre-packed grease is not included. Proper lubrication between the cam followers and the steel track is critical to prevent seizure and minimize friction. Since an inner ring is not present, a shaft surface finish of 0.2 MRA or less and a shaft hardness of HRC 58 to 64 are recommended for optimal performance.
