The IKO separable roller follower is composed of an inner ring, needle roller cage, side plates, and a thick-walled outer ring designed to withstand heavy rolling or shock loads, allowing for easy handling due to the separable parts. These roller followers are offered with either crowned or cylindrical outer rings; the crowned variant mitigates edge load resulting from mounting errors, while the cylindrical option is ideal for applications with substantial loads or low track surface hardness, courtesy of its larger contact area with the mating track surface. The double sealed followers, denoted by suffixes ZZUU and ZZUUR, are pre-packed with grease, whereas the double shielded variants (suffixes ZZ and ZZR) require adequate lubrication to be added, as no grease is provided. Proper lubrication is essential between the roller followers and the steel track to prevent seizure and minimize friction.
