The IKO separable roller follower consists of an inner ring, needle roller cage, side plates, and a thick-walled outer ring designed to withstand heavy rolling or shock loads. This assembly allows for easy handling since the parts can be easily separated. Roller followers are available with crowned or cylindrical outer rings; the crowned outer ring helps to relieve edge load created by mounting errors, while the cylindrical outer ring is suitable for applications involving large loads or low track surface hardness due to its larger contact area with the mating track surface. Double sealed followers, designated with the suffix ZZUU and ZZUUR, come pre-packed with grease, whereas double shielded options, indicated by the suffixes ZZ and ZZR, require adequate lubrication to be added as no grease is provided. Sufficient lubrication between the roller followers and the steel track is necessary to prevent seizure and reduce friction.
