The 3M™ Cloth Band 747D measures 2 inches in diameter by 1 inch in width with an 80 grit ceramic abrasive. It is designed for grinding, sanding, and shaping on all metals—including stainless steel and nickel alloys—as well as wood and fiberglass, effectively accessing inner and outer contours to remove parting lines, seams, imperfections, and burrs. The band features a blend of aluminum oxide and proprietary 3M™ ceramic abrasive grain resin-bonded to a durable cotton backing, providing fast continuous cutting and long-lasting performance under high heat and pressure. A grinding aid on the band reduces grinding temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys. It fits onto rubber wheel attachments such as cushion polishing wheels or rubber slotted expander wheels (sold separately) for use with die grinders or rotary drills. Available in various widths and lengths to accommodate different contours and tasks, it is commonly employed in foundry and metal fabrication work. The ceramic abrasive grain, engineered for toughness and hardness, frequently fractures to maintain a super fast cut while handling intense heat and stress, making this ceramic/aluminum oxide blend more durable and higher performing than standard aluminum oxide abrasives. Typical applications include blending corners, contour finishing, deburring (including internal diameters), grinding, and polishing in metal fabrication industries.
