The 3M™ Cloth Band 747D with dimensions of 1/2" diameter by 1" width and 80 grit ceramic abrasive is designed for grinding, sanding, and shaping on all metals, including stainless steel and nickel alloys, as well as wood and fiberglass. It effectively conforms to inner and outer contours to remove parting lines, seams, imperfections, and burrs. The abrasive consists of a blend of aluminum oxide and 3M™ ceramic abrasive grain resin-bonded to a durable cotton backing, providing fast continuous cut and long-life durability in aggressive applications. The resin bond withstands high heat and pressure, while a grinding aid reduces grinding temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys. The band is intended to be mounted on a rubber wheel attachment, such as a cushion polishing wheel or rubber slotted expander wheel (both sold separately), for use with a die grinder or rotary drill. Available in various widths and lengths, the bands are suitable for different contours and are commonly used in foundry work. The ceramic abrasive grain, created through a proprietary process, enhances toughness and hardness, with ceramic blend products engineered to fracture frequently for fast cutting and resistance to intense heat and stress. This blend surpasses standard aluminum oxide abrasives in both cut-rate and durability, making the 3M™ Cloth Band 747D ideal for moderate stock removal and surface preparation tasks like blending corners, contour finishing, deburring including internal diameters, grinding, and polishing.
