3M™ Cloth Band 747D 1-1/2" diameter by 1-1/2" width, 50 grit ceramic, is a versatile abrasive designed for grinding, sanding, and shaping on all metals including stainless steel and nickel alloys, as well as wood and fiberglass. It conforms to contours to remove parting lines, seams, imperfections, and burrs, providing fast continuous cut and long-life durability on aggressive applications. The abrasive grain consists of a blend of aluminum oxide and 3M™ ceramic abrasive grain resin-bonded to a durable cotton backing. The resin bond withstands high heat and pressure, while a grinding aid minimizes grinding temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys. Designed to fit onto rubber wheel attachments such as cushion polishing wheels or rubber slotted expander wheels (sold separately), it is compatible with die grinders or rotary drills. Available in various widths and lengths to suit different tasks and contours, it is commonly used in foundry work. The ceramic abrasive grain is enhanced for toughness and hardness through a proprietary process, blending ceramic minerals with aluminum oxide to produce a harder, longer-lasting abrasive ideal for stock removal. The ceramic/aluminum oxide blend provides superior cut-rate and durability compared to aluminum oxide abrasives, making 3M™ Cloth Band 747D well suited for moderate stock removal and surface preparation tasks such as blending corners, contour finishing, deburring internal diameters, grinding, and polishing in metal fabrication industries.
