3M™ paper sheet 426U is a 9" x 11" sanding sheet featuring 80 grit silicon carbide abrasive on an A-weight, light paper backing with an anti-loading coating and open coat construction. This general purpose abrasive is designed for finishing applications such as paint preparation, white wood sanding, sealer sanding, and solid surface finishing. The silicon carbide abrasive provides a smoother finish than aluminum oxide or garnet on painted metal and wood substrates, while its resin bond construction ensures superior grain retention. The sheet's open coat design and load-resistant coating offer excellent antiloading characteristics. The lightweight A-weight backing offers conformability over contours, crevasses, and corners and can be easily cut to fit hand pad blocks, inline sanders, or power sanders. Common applications include general sanding, finishing, blending, surface leveling, and preparation prior to staining or painting. Silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral known for its sharpness, making it ideal for final finishing in white wood sanding, though it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide while producing a superior finish.
