The 3M™ Paper Sheet 426U measures 9" x 11" and features 120 grit silicon carbide abrasive on an A-weight lightweight paper backing with an anti-loading coating and open coat construction. This general-purpose abrasive sanding sheet is designed for finishing applications such as paint preparation, white wood sanding, sealer sanding, and solid surface finishing. The silicon carbide abrasive delivers a smoother finish compared to aluminum oxide or garnet abrasives on painted metal and wood substrates. Its resin bond construction ensures superior grain retention, while the open coat design combined with the load-resistant coating offers excellent anti-loading properties. The light A-weight backing provides conformability over contours, crevasses, and corners and can be easily cut to fit hand pad blocks, inline sanders, or finishing and power sanders. Suitable for general sanding, finishing, blending, surface leveling, and prep before staining or painting, these sanding sheets are ideal for multi-step finishing processes. Silicon carbide, a synthetic mineral known for its sharpness, is commonly used for final finishing in white wood sanding. Though it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, it achieves a superior finish. Typical applications include finishing, lacquer sanding, scuffing, sealant removal, varnish stripping, cabinetry, custom woodworking and millwork, furniture making, and primary wood and panel processing.
