3M™ paper sheet 426U measures 9" x 11" and features 180 grit silicon carbide abrasive on an A-weight light paper backing. This general-purpose sanding sheet includes an anti-loading coating and open coat construction, making it ideal for finishing applications such as paint preparation, white wood sanding, sealer sanding, and solid surface finishing. The silicon carbide abrasive produces a smoother finish than aluminum oxide or garnet on painted metal and wood substrates, with resin bond construction providing superior grain retention. Its open coat design and load-resistant coating offer excellent antiloading characteristics, while the lightweight backing ensures conformability over contours, crevices, and corners. The sheet can be cut to fit hand pad blocks, inline sanders, or finishing and power sanders, suitable for general sanding, finishing, blending, surface leveling, and prep prior to staining or painting. Silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral, is widely used for final finishing in white wood sanding but breaks down faster than aluminum oxide while delivering a superior finish. Typical applications include finishing, lacquer sanding, scuffing, sealant removal, varnish stripping, cabinetry, custom woodworking, millwork, furniture, and primary wood and panel processing.
