3M™ paper sheet 426U is a 9" x 11" sanding sheet with 220 grit silicon carbide abrasive on a light A-weight paper backing, designed for general purpose sanding and finishing applications including paint prep, white wood sanding, sealer sanding, and solid surface finishing. The sheet features an anti-loading coating and open coat construction to provide excellent antiloading characteristics, while the resin bond offers superior grain retention. Silicon carbide, a synthetic sharp mineral used for final finishing, delivers a smoother finish than aluminum oxide or garnet on painted metal and wood substrates but breaks down faster. The lightweight backing allows conformability over contours, crevices, and corners, and the sheet can be easily cut to fit hand pad blocks, inline sanders, finishing, or power sanders. Typical uses include general sanding, finishing, blending, surface leveling, and preparation before staining or painting, as well as lacquer sanding, scuffing, sealant removal, varnish stripping, cabinetry, custom woodworking, millwork, furniture production, and primary wood and panel processing.
