The 3M Utility Cloth Roll measures 1" W x 50 yd and features aluminum oxide with a 240 grit. This roll allows for the desired length of the strip to be torn off for specific applications. Most grades are equipped with a light, J-weight cloth backing that delivers the flexibility necessary to adapt to circular edges, angles, or various contours. Rolls in grades P50 or P60 possess a slightly stiffer X-weight backing that is optimal for more coarse sanding tasks. The cloth maintains durability even when bent or rolled, without tearing or shelling, and strips can be easily torn by hand for smaller pieces without affecting the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide, favored among industrial professionals, offers a fast cut-rate and long lifespan, self-fracturing to reveal new cutting edges, unlike traditional natural abrasives which dull more rapidly. It is versatile for use on a wide array of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys, and can be employed for cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal.
