The 3M Utility Cloth Roll measures 2 inches in width and 50 yards in length, featuring an aluminum oxide abrasive with 100 grit for efficient sanding. The roll allows users to tear strips to the desired length for specific applications. Most grades have a light J-weight cloth backing that provides flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours, while rolls in grades P50 or P60 include a slightly stiffer X-weight backing designed for more coarse sanding tasks. The cloth backing remains durable when bent or rolled, resisting tearing and shelling, yet can be torn by hand without compromising the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide abrasive is known for its fast cut rate and long lifespan, as it self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys, woodworking, metalworking, wood, and plastic. Typical applications include cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal, serving industries such as marine and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO).
