The 3M Utility Cloth Roll measures 2 inches wide by 50 yards long and features an aluminum oxide abrasive with a 150 grit rating. The strip length can be torn from the roll for specific applications, with most grades using a light J-weight cloth backing to provide flexibility for conforming to circular edges, angles, or other contours. Rolls graded P50 or P60 have a slightly stiffer X-weight backing designed for more coarse sanding applications. The cloth remains durable when bent or rolled without tearing or shelling, yet strips can be torn by hand without compromising the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide is a fast cut-rate, long-lasting abrasive that self-fractures to reveal fresh cutting edges and is suitable for a wide variety of materials, including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. This abrasive is effective on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic. Typical applications include cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal, serving industries such as marine and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO).
