The 3M™ portable utility cloth roll 314D features a 1" x 20 yds roll of P180 grit aluminum oxide abrasive designed for hand sanding in various applications such as deburring, blending, repairing metal finishes, rust and contaminant removal, and surface preparation for paints and coatings. The roll allows tearing of the desired strip length, offering flexibility with a light J-weight cloth backing that conforms to circular edges, angles, and contours, while grades P50 and P60 include a stiffer X-weight backing for coarser sanding. The cloth remains durable without tearing or shelling, and strips can be hand-torn without compromising the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide abrasive is known for its fast cut-rate, long life, and ability to self-fracture, exposing fresh cutting edges, making it suitable for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, plastic, and ferrous alloys across industries such as metalworking and MRO. The roll is intended for applications including blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, and rust removal.
