The 3M™ Portable Utility Cloth Roll 314D 1" x 20 yds P240 grit aluminum oxide roll provides lightweight cloth sanding strips designed for hand sanding in various applications. Constructed with aluminum oxide abrasive, the utility rolls are available in multiple grades for tasks such as deburring, blending, repairing metal finishes, rust or contaminant removal, and surface preparation for paints and coatings. Users can tear the desired strip length from the roll, with most grades featuring a light J-weight cloth backing for flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or contours, while grades P50 or P60 have a stiffer X-weight backing for coarser sanding. The cloth backing remains durable when bent or rolled without tearing or shelling, and strips can be hand-torn without losing abrasive quality. Aluminum oxide, known for its fast cut rate and long life, is a durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges and is effective on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic.
