Thhn 6 gauge building wire, stranded type, brown is designed for a variety of commercial and industrial applications, primarily installed in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 conductors, when used as type THHN, are suitable for dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C. In contrast, as type THWN-2 or TWN75, they can be utilized in both wet and dry locations, adhering to a maximum of 90 °C or 75 °C when exposed to oil. As type MTW, they are appropriate for wet environments or oil exposure at temperatures not surpassing 60 °C, or dry locations at temperatures up to 90 °C with ampacity limited to that of a 75 °C conductor per NFPA 79. These conductors can withstand temperatures up to 105 °C in dry locations when rated AWM and utilized as appliance wiring material or T90 nylon. The voltage rating for all applications is 600 volts, and installation can be accomplished without the use of pulling lubricant. This wire meets or exceeds all relevant ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, Federal Specification A-A-59544, and National Electrical Code requirements. It is also VW-1 rated for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, FT1 for sizes through 500 KCMIL, and ROHS compliant with sunlight resistance for sizes 2 AWG and larger. The wire is constructed of annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand, and insulated with a durable heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), covered by a SIM (Slikqwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or a UL recognized equivalent jacket.
