The Thhn 4 gauge building wire, stranded type, red, is designed for a variety of applications including conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial settings, in accordance with the 2008 National Electrical Code. The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 conductors are suitable for use in dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C when used as type THHN, while types THWN-2 or TWN75 can be employed in both wet and dry locations at similar temperature thresholds or 75 °C when exposed to oil. For type MTW, these conductors are usable in wet locations or in the presence of oil at temperatures not to exceed 60 °C, and in dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C, with ampacity limited to that of a 75 °C conductor as per NFPA 79. The conductors can withstand temperatures up to 105 °C in dry locations when rated AWM and used as appliance wiring material or as T90 nylon, with a voltage rating of 600 volts. The cable can be installed without the need for pulling lubricant. The specifications ensure compliance with relevant ASTM standards, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (for MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE at 90 °C, and Federal Specification A-A-59544, with VW-1 rating for sizes 14 through 1 AWG and UL 1685 for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger for CT use. Additionally, it meets FT1 standards for sizes through 500 KCMIL and is RoHS compliant and sunlight resistant for sizes 2 AWG and larger. The construction features annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand conductors, insulated with a durable heat and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and protected by a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an UL recognized equivalent jacket.
