TFFN 18 gauge building wire is a stranded type conductor available in white, designed for applications such as fixture wiring, machine tool wiring, and appliance wiring as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. When used as type TFFN, it is suitable for temperatures not exceeding 90°C; as type MTW, it can be used in wet locations or when exposed to oil or coolant at temperatures not exceeding 60°C, or in dry locations at 90°C with ampacity limited to that for 75°C conductor temperature per NFPA 79. For appliance wiring material rated AWM, conductor temperatures can reach up to 105°C in dry locations. The wire operates at a voltage of 600 volts. Southwire type TFFN, MTW, or AWM meets or exceeds UL standard 66 and the National Electrical Code requirements, and is RoHS compliant. The construction features Southwire type TFFN, MTW, or AWM copper conductors made of annealed (soft) copper, insulated with a durable, heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and covered with a nylon (polyamide) jacket. The wire is available in various colors, including black, white, red, blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, purple, gray, and pink, with some colors being standard while others are subject to economic order quantity. Additionally, it is oil and gasoline resistant according to Underwriters Laboratories standards.
