Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 conductors are 8 gauge stranded building wires, primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. As type THHN, the T90 nylon conductor is suitable for dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 90 °C, while type THWN-2 or TWN75 can be used in wet or dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 90 °C or 75 °C when exposed to oil. The MTW rating allows use in wet locations at temperatures not to exceed 60 °C or dry locations at 90 °C with ampacity limited to that for 75 °C conductor temperature per NFPA 79. The cable supports 600 volts without requiring pulling lubricant for installation. The wire meets or exceeds all applicable ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, Federal Specification A-A-59544, as well as National Electrical Code requirements. Additionally, it is compliant with VW-1 for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT use for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger per UL 1685, FT1 for sizes up to 500 KCMIL, T90 nylon for sizes through 500 KCMIL, TWN 75 for sizes through 500 KCMIL, and RoHS compliant and sunlight-resistant, marked and listed in all colors 2 AWG and larger. The construction consists of annealed (soft) copper with unilay compressed strands, insulated with a durable heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and jacketed with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an UL recognized equivalent.
