The TFFN 16 gauge building wire is a stranded type wire in green, designed for various applications including fixture wire, machine tool wiring, and appliance wiring material, as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. When used as type TFFN, the conductor is suitable for temperatures not exceeding 90°C. As type MTW, it is fit for wet locations or exposure to oil or coolant at temperatures up to 60°C, or dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90°C, with ampacity limited to that of a 75°C conductor per NFPA 79. The wire can withstand conductor temperatures of up to 105°C in dry locations when rated AWM for appliance wiring. It is rated for a voltage of 600 volts. The specifications indicate that the Southwire type TFFN or MTW or AWM meets or exceeds UL standard 66 and the National Electrical Code requirements, and it is RoHS compliant. The construction features annealed (soft) copper conductors, insulated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) that is tough, heat, and moisture resistant, with an additional nylon (polyamide) jacket. The wire is available in multiple colors including black, white, red, blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, purple, gray, and pink, with some colors being standard and others subject to economic order quantity. It is also oil and gasoline resistant as defined by Underwriters Laboratories.
