Thhn 8 gauge building wire, stranded type, gray, is designed for various commercial and industrial applications, as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 conductors are primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits. When utilized as type THHN, the conductor is suitable for dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C, while as type THWN-2 or TWN75, it is suitable for both wet and dry locations at the same temperature limit, or 75 °C when exposed to oil. As type MTW, the conductor can be used in wet conditions or when exposed to oil at temperatures not exceeding 60 °C, and for dry locations, it can operate at 90 °C, with ampacity limited to that of a 75 °C conductor per NFPA 79. This cable operates at a voltage of 600 volts and can be installed without the need for pulling lubricant. It meets or exceeds all applicable ASTM specifications, UL standard 83, UL 1581, UL standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C standards, and federal specification A-A-59544. It is VW-1 rated for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT rated as per UL 1685 for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, and FT1 rated for sizes up to 500 KCMIL. Additionally, the cable is ROHS compliant, sunlight resistant, and marked in all colors for sizes 2 AWG and larger. The construction features annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand, insulated with a tough heat and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and encased in a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or a UL recognized equal jacket.
